When is Hari Raya 2027?
The expected date is Wednesday, 10 March 2027, with Thursday, 11 March as the second public holiday. The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal announces the actual date on the evening of the 29th of Ramadan after the rukyah at sighting points around the country. If the moon is not seen, Raya moves to Thursday. Two kinds of kad raya
A kad raya used to mean a greeting card in the post. Now the word covers two different jobs, and mixing them up makes for a confusing card.
The first is the ucapan: a greeting to send on the morning of Raya to people you will not see, from former colleagues to the cousins in Sabah. It needs a line of wishes, maybe a family photo, and not much else. The second is the jemputan: an invitation to your rumah terbuka. That one has to carry a date, a time window, an address with a map pin and, if you are catering, a way to tell you how many are coming. Make two cards if you need both.
Picking an open house weekend in Syawal 2027
Syawal lasts 29 or 30 days, so in 2027 open houses can run until roughly the first week of April. The weekends play out differently.
- 13 and 14 March: most people are still in the kampung. Good for a family open house in your hometown, poor for one in the city.
- 20 and 21 March: the first weekend back at work. City open houses start, and every second friend is hosting, so send early.

When to send it
Send the open house invitation two to three weeks before the date. For a 20 or 21 March open house, that means the first week of March, while people are still fasting and planning their weekends. Send the ucapan on the morning of Raya or the night before, once the date is announced.
