Is a songket card right for the akad nikah?
It can be, but songket belongs more naturally to the bersanding. Many couples use an Islamic, white or sage design for a nikah at the mosque and a songket card for the reception.

Songket is what families reach for when the wedding is a full adat bersanding, with the pelamin, the tepak sirih and the kompang at the door. A good songket card tells guests that before they've read a word. A poor one looks like a PowerPoint background. Below are eight real songket designs from our catalogue, and how to pick one by the colour of the groom's samping.
Each cover is a screenshot of a live design with sample names. Tap one to open the traditional category of the catalogue.
The catalogue uses songket in two ways, and on a phone the difference is obvious.
Sulam Songket keeps the weave to a band at the top and bottom, with plain midnight velvet in between. The names sit on a quiet surface and stay legible on a small screen.
Adat Songket Diraja and Adat run the motif across the whole background. They feel grander, closer to an istana. The trade-off is that type on a patterned ground has to be heavy, which is why those two use large gilded names.
The pelamin usually comes from the boutique package and its colours can change late. The groom's samping and the bride's baju songket are ordered months ahead, so they're the safer reference.
| Songket colour | Designs that fit | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Maroon & gold | Adat Songket Diraja, Adat, Tenun Merah Delima | The classic pairing; works in a hall or at the bride's family home |
| Deep blue | Adat Songket Nilam, Sulam Songket | Calm, and good for an evening reception |
| Emerald | Medali Zamrud | Pairs well with white flowers on the pelamin |
| Teal | Songket Permaisuri, Adat Gunungan Senja | An unusual colour, so the card is remembered |
| Cream or ivory | Choose a light-ground design | Gold songket on a dark ground overwhelms soft-coloured outfits |
Plenty of families hold the bride's reception first and the groom's side (majlis menyambut menantu) a week or two later. Printed cards mean two print runs. A digital card can carry both events in its programme, or you duplicate it and change the date and venue, and the songket look carries across.

They are digital artwork inspired by traditional motifs such as pucuk rebung. They are not scans of a particular weaver's cloth.
The cover artwork is fixed for each design, so pick the design closest to your samping from the eight above.
