Pick your side and your tray count. The calculator tells you the usual reply count, flags an even number, and gives you a list of tray contents to tick off. Below it are rough duit hantaran ranges by region, something to bring to the family discussion.
5trays from your side
The bride's side usually replies with 7 trays.
0 of 5 trays filled.
Trays sorted. Now the invitation: one link for every guest, RM10 paid once.
Make Your InvitationMalay custom uses odd numbers of hantaran trays: 3, 5, 7 or 9. The bride's side replies with the next odd number up, so five trays from the groom's side get seven back. There's no religious rule behind it. It's adat, and most families still follow it.
If your family does it differently, go with your family. The calculator just follows what most people do.
Duit hantaran is separate from the hantaran trays and separate from mas kahwin. It's money the groom's side gives towards the wedding, the two families negotiate the amount, and there is no official rate.
The ranges below are commonly quoted estimates, not official data or survey results, and we've kept them wide on purpose. Education, career, the size of the kenduri and family custom all push the figure up or down.
| Region | Common range | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya | RM10,000 to RM25,000 | City weddings cost more, and hantaran follows |
| Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan | RM8,000 to RM20,000 | Many families scale it to the size of the kenduri |
| Perak, Penang, Kedah, Perlis | RM7,000 to RM18,000 | Home kenduri still common, lower overall costs |
| Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang | RM10,000 to RM25,000 | Kelantan figures are often quoted higher, so talk early |
| Sabah, Sarawak | RM5,000 to RM15,000 | Varies a lot by community and local custom |
Mas kahwin is compulsory and each state sets the rate. Duit hantaran is custom, and the amount is whatever the families agree. When an aunty asks 'hantaran berapa?' during the merisik, make sure everyone in the room knows which one is on the table.
Nine. The reply is the next odd number after the count received.
Yes, it doesn't affect the validity of the nikah. Most Malay families still keep to odd numbers though, so expect the elders to say something.
Usually, yes. The money is arranged on its own tray, sometimes with the ring. Count that tray in the groom's side total.
Both families, usually during the merisik or meminang. Bring a sensible range to that conversation and leave room to meet in the middle.
